The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls (IORG) in Michigan is a youth leadership organization dedicated to empowering young women between the ages of 11 and 20 through character building, community service, and public speaking. Guided by the values of leadership, confidence, and sisterhood, Michigan Rainbow provides a supportive environment where girls gain real-world skills—such as parliamentary procedure, event planning, and team collaboration—while organizing philanthropic projects across the state. By fostering lifelong friendships and instilling seven core principles symbolized by the colors of the rainbow, Michigan Rainbow inspires its members to serve their local communities with purpose, grow into confident leaders, and make a positive impact in the world around them.
Historically and structurally, Michigan Rainbow is deeply rooted in the Masonic family, having been founded in 1922 by W. Mark Sexson, a 33rd Degree Mason and Past Grand Master of Oklahoma. While the organization operates independently, local assemblies across Michigan are traditionally sponsored by Order of the Eastern Star chapters, Masonic Lodges, or Amanth Chapters. Through this sponsorship, Masons and Eastern Star members serve as adult advisors, providing mentorship, governance support, and meeting facilities in local Masonic temples. This ongoing relationship creates a intergenerational bond built on shared values—such as integrity, service, and civic responsibility—giving young women a safe, supportive network backed by the traditions and community of Freemasonry.
